Forgiveness

Forgiveness is an area that many people seem to have much confusion about it.  This section should provide you with a reasonably good understanding of forgiveness.  Like the subject of salvation, there are a number of verses about forgiveness throughout the guide.   However, only seeing a few of the individual verses might give a limited understanding.  This limited understanding is possibly the major reason for some of the comments I've heard people say regarding forgiveness.

“I could never forgive them for doing that.”

“Does God really forgive sinners?”

“How could God forgive me of that?”

“I could never forgive myself for doing that.”

We need to remind ourselves that God’s forgiveness cannot be earned, and that there is nothing we can do to deserve His forgiveness.  He provides us the opportunity to receive forgiveness freely because He has paid the full price to purchase it.  The following are some of the verses and websites regarding Forgiveness.

Romans 6:23  For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Matthew 18:21-22  Then Peter came up and said to him, “Lord, how often will my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?”  Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you seven times, but seventy-seven times.

Matthew 6:14-15  For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Mark 11:25  And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”

1 John 1:9  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

1 John 1:9-10  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

Isaiah 1:18  “Come now, let us reason together, says the LORD: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.

One last consideration is the positive effect of Forgiveness our health, and a confirmation of God’s interest in our best as indicated in His command for us to forgive.  The following links demonstrate this.
